Reishi Folklore

Reishi’s history is long and extensive, especially in Chinese medicine. It is often referred to as the Imperial tonic as it was part of the medicines given to the Chinese emperor to prolong life. Other stories tell how it was used significantly by both warrior and ascetic monks. The monks consumed it to deepen their meditation practices. Reishi is also reputed to offer anti-aging (or longevity) properties and so is also often called the Mushroom of Immortality.

Reishi Today

Today Reishi is the #1-selling nutraceutical mushroom species worldwide and is also among the most extensively researched.

As Adaptogen

Reishi has a powerful calming effect on both mind and body and is often used as an adaptogen to help support a healthy stress response.

Cardiovascular Health

In studies, Reishi has demonstrated its ability to reduce elevated blood presssure,[1] likely by calming the sympathetic nervous system, the nervous system that kicks into gear in times of stress. Further cardiovascular support is seen in its support of a healthy lipid profile, helping to reduce the oxidation of our cholesterol.[2,3]

Immune Health

Reishi appears to excel in helping to modulate and balance immune function and inflammation,[4,5,6] making it a very useful mushroom in cases of immune dysfunction. Reishi is an excellent choice for overall wellness support.

Healthy Sleep

Another function of Reishi is associated with sleep. Reishi supports shorter sleep latency (the amount of time it takes to fall asleep when the lights go out), deeper sleep and increased sleeping time.[7]

Host Defense Reishi

Host Defense grows its Reishi on organic brown rice to provide a bio-digestible and bio-available product made from activated mycelium, not from indigestible fruitbodies and spores.
