Where it is grown

Pacific NorthWest (Washington State)

Agarikon Folklore

Agarikon was known in ancient Greece as the 'elixir of long life'. In the Pacific Northwest is was referred to as the 'bread of ghosts', and shamans of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian peoples carved the conks into talismans to guard their graves.

A Rare Mushroom

Once widespread, Agarikon is now extremely rare, surviving in the old growth forests of the Pacific Northwest. Host Defense has focused on building an extensive culture library to preserve the species.

Modern research on Agarikon is limited. The published research is mostly geared toward trying to understand its reputed powerful antimicrobial activity.[1,2]

Host Defense Agarikon

Host Defense grows its Agarikon on organic brown rice to provide a bio-digestible and bio-available product made from activated mycelium, not from indigestible fruitbodies and spores.
